“Going to Oxy was one of the best decisions I’ve made in my life,” says Rosny Daniel ’09. He majored in biochemistry (with a minor in religious studies) and got his introduction to campus through the Multicultural Summer Institute.

“Oxy really helped me grow and cultivate my passion for social justice,” he says. “I’ve made a lot of my career out of that.”

As a full-time faculty member in the UCSF Department of Emergency Medicine, Daniel splits his time between the classroom and the Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital and Trauma Center. In addition to recruiting and mentoring medical school students from all backgrounds, “I’m hoping to continue teaching at the national level and to be involved in changing the conversation around social health,” he says.

As a student Telefund caller for Oxy, “I was very good at getting hung up on 30 times but getting one person to talk to me,” Daniel recalls with a laugh. He enjoys being on the other end of the line now, testing student callers with “the standard questions” before making his gift to the College—just as he has done every year since graduating. “Oxy gave me so many different opportunities,” Daniel says. “I always try to give back.”
