A Message From Our Campaign Co-chairs

Dear Friends and Colleagues,

We write once again with pride, gratitude and excitement to report the latest progress of The Oxy Campaign For Good for the 2021-22 academic year. Moved by the results we have achieved and excited about what the future holds, we are particularly thankful to you, Oxy’s loyal alumni and parents, for your continued support of our students and faculty, and for the many ways in which you are engaged with the College as volunteers, as donors, and as participants in the life of the College.

We are thrilled to share that the campaign surpassed its initial $225 million target with a full year remaining in the campaign. As of June 30, 2022—the close of Oxy’s fiscal year—more than $231.2 million had been raised in gifts and commitments to the campaign, including $39.6 million over the last 12 months alone. Gifts to the Oxy Fund, which supports the College’s current operations, reached more than $5 million, including $1.5 million donated during the third annual Day For Oxy.

Given this remarkable record of generosity, we are excited about building on this momentum in the last year of The Oxy Campaign For Good. In the coming months, we hope to endow even more student scholarships, make much-needed renovations to Norris Hall of Chemistry, and enhance support for students and faculty in the Music, Media Arts and Culture, Computer Science, and Economics departments.

We hope that as you review the remarkable results of the past year you share not only our feeling of accomplishment but our sense of optimism about what the final year of The Oxy Campaign For Good can mean for Occidental.

With sincere thanks,

Why We’re Involved

For Access

Exposure to a broad range of intellectual, social and cultural viewpoints—the essence of a liberal arts education—elevates students in the classroom and beyond. Our responsibility is to provide this opportunity to exceptional students regardless of their circumstances. We seek to raise $100 million to endow new student scholarships—our highest campaign priority.

For Distinction

Help us continue to strengthen academic excellence at Oxy. We seek to raise $50 million to endow professorships in the arts, humanities, social sciences and sciences, and to fuel the continued evolution of academic and co-curricular programs.

For Campus

As the Oxy campus continues to thrive, new opportunities to re-imagine cherished landmarks for the enjoyment of future generations present themselves. The Campaign will preserve Oxy’s rich architectural heritage, maintaining the Quad, courtyards and other spaces that play a central role in College life. We seek to raise $40 million to maintain and modernize our beloved campus.

For Today

A strong Oxy Fund makes for a strong Occidental. Thousands of alumni, parents and friends support the College each year through the Oxy Fund—and you can make an immediate impact with your gift. We seek to raise $35 million in unrestricted gifts to underwrite the College’s current operations.

The next generation of leaders and scholars in our communities, in our country and in the world need to be able to see issues from all sides. This requires an interdisciplinary and fact-based approach, but also open and constructive dialogue. This is what Oxy teaches young people today. Our duty is to support these students and those in the years to come.”
