Join us and support Oxy’s Department of Economics within The Oxy Campaign For Good. Your generosity in supporting academic excellence in this historic department will prepare Oxy’s students for lives of leadership and impact in the future.

Through philanthropic support, we can build the endowment for the Oxy economics department to recruit and retain the next generation of inspiring professors, improve the student to faculty ratio to increase faculty mentorship and advising capacity, deepen and diversify the economics curriculum, and provide new technology.

Invest to grow full-time, tenure-track faculty

Creating endowed positions would enable Oxy to retain our exceptional current professors as well as to have the strengthened financial capacity to attract a new generation of economists.

Support to expand breadth of learning

Campaign support will broaden the scope of department expertise by developing our Professors of Practice positions, visiting professorships held by leaders in the field who practice economics in a non-academic setting, bringing invaluable and diverse real-world perspectives to economics at Occidental.

Help increase research and academic resources

Campaign giving will support collaboration between economics students and faculty. Your generosity will increase the availability of these opportunities, and allow the department to expand academic resources for students, including technology and tools needed to gain a competitive advantage when they begin their careers.

"I entered Oxy with a vague idea that I would major in economics, but it wasn’t until Robby Moore’s Intermediate Microeconomics course that my interest was solidified. In his classroom, I was drawn to the tools of economic thinking, learning new methods to analyze decision-making processes."

“I wanted to be a poli sci major. Then I met Woody Studenmund and I wanted to major in economics. I just kept finding professors and getting excited about what they did.”

“Professor Lehr guided my academic career in the field of economics, including helping me secure a slot as a visiting student for one year at the University of Cambridge. I owe him for many of my successes, but mostly for developing my interest in economics.”
