Throughout Oxy’s history, generous gifts from foundations have built state-of-the-art facilities and strengthened research opportunities for students enrolled in science courses.
Oxy had given me so much that I felt it was my duty to give back, because I want Occidental to stand among its peers in the world. I believe in the College’s mission and that what it has been for me could be done for many other people. And I want Oxy to continue to do that. So that's why I continue to be involved—and will be for a very long time.
The foundation of an Occidental education is what launched me into life. When we were at Occidental, we were taught how to think, how to consider—and that has carried me through life and a variety of careers.
Giving is life-affirming and uplifting for the one who gives. My desire and ability to give have been a source of ongoing joy for me. My giving to Occidental College is especially joyful and meaningful to me because Occidental is where so much of the foundation of my life developed.
When I look back, that personalized attention and care for the students really exemplified my experience. It was the cherry on top that allowed me to achieve all sorts of things. I was amazed by the staff and faculty, and how they welcomed me.
I believe in the transformational power of higher education and in an Oxy education specifically.
Reflecting on the past several years, I must say that from the beginning, Oxy exceeded our expectations in every aspect. Whether it was the academic rigor, availability of resources to students, or community engagement, we were always impressed by Oxy’s level of excellence.
